Reflective Practices & Supervision - Mental Health Therapist
About Lisa King
Lisa King, Psychotherapist / Mental Health Social Worker
I am a trauma therapist and author. I have experience in working with children, young people, and women and men across the lifespan. I genuinely enjoy working with people to help them to be the best possible versions of themselves. In my previous life, I was a secondary school teacher, and later transitioned to working with children with special needs. My strong sense of social justice and human rights, interest in mental health, genuine love for people and passion to empower individuals who have experienced trauma led me to embark on a counselling and social work career. I worked with women, children and young people who experienced domestic abuse (clinical manager of a D&FV prevention service), and as a mental health clinician.
I specialise in working with people who have experienced complex childhood trauma. My approach is founded on the Power Threat Meaning Framework that empowers individuals rather than pathologises them. Where there is trauma, there is space for recovery. I am a feminist and LGBTIQA+ ally. I employ a trauma-informed, attachment-focused approach to people’s paths to triumphant transformation. Their healing paths are paved with kindness, compassion, curiosity, humour, and play.
In my ‘spare time’, I like to write, read, listen to music, paint, and explore the universe.
